tiny admiration

Admiring a Tiny Spider

A tiny spider’s silken bands,
No bigger than my freckled hands,
Caught the angle of the sun,
And thus my attention won.

Thank you tiny little friend,
For the amazing web you spin.
I pause your labor to admire,
Both design and craft do inspire!

new friend

New Friend

I met a new friend,
A spiritual man,
As our minds conversed,
Our spirits shook hands!!!

eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph4.3

If your house caught fire and everyone was safe what one item would you rescue?

If you were loosing your memory and could only save one memory what would it be?

When I was a kid I had a little cigar box with all my treasures. What do you treasure?

Jesus said not to store treasure on earth but rather in heaven ....
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Where is your heart??????????

you choose

You choose your attitude!!!

“Even a cow has enough sense to eat the grass and leave the rocks.” Ken Jones

“Sour grapes I refuse”,
Gertrude the cow mooed.
She knew she could Choose,
Her own bovine Attitude.

Repetition of the theme.

Make your first thought one of thanksgiving!

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!  1Chron16.8

And then sing a happy song!!! Yes, sing it out loud!

Sing to him, sing praises to him; 1Chron16.9

red light, green light

Red Light, Green Light

I Am Free
To Be Me

We don’t always have freedom as to what activities we must engage in but we always have freedom in how we will engage in them. Take the example of a driver stopped at a red light. The driver must stop. It is the law of the land and a law of safety. The driver, though, is totally free to choose what he/she thinks about. And the is totally free to choose their attitude and thus their feelings. Those 120 seconds can add to the blessings of the day. Or those 120 seconds can produce a body chemistry of stress that hasten the day of death and ruin a beautiful day.

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.  esv Prov4.23

the other golden rule

The Other Golden Rule

Ask, seek, knock?
Jesus’ words not mine.
Given, found, opened!
‘Tis the rule divine!

These words of Jesus are either true or false. I have found them to be true based on a lifetime of experience.  But, they are not magic. Faith, time, and perseverance are part of the equation. Ask, and keep on asking. Seek, and keep on seeking. Knock, and keep on knocking,

don’t judge the judge

Don’t Judge the Judge
Strange Case of Samson

Samson was an Israeli Judge?
For twenty years it seems.
But when it came to women,
He liked the Philistines.

Odd as it may be,
It came from the Lord,
He killed a thousand men,
With a jawbone not a sword!

Until he told Delilah,
The secret of his might.
She cut his hair short,
And Samson couldn’t fight.

They gouged out his eyes,
And made them their slave.
Until when his hair grew back,
He made their temple their grave.

a day of no regret

To see the sun rise,
I will not despise,
And to watch it set,
Is a day with no regret!

Happy “Near Death” First Anniversary, The Miracle

One year ago today I almost died. My blood pressure was 40/20. My kidneys stopped functioning. The doctors gave my family the “it could be today warning”.

Why did I survive?

It would be arrogant to answer that question with any words other than “by the grace of God” but I think it healthy to notice the packages inside of which the grace arrived.

First, I have many people who sincerely care about me and who prayed for me either in the moment of crisis or previously.

Second, I had a good team of medical professionals who made heroic efforts to save my life.

Third???? I know of no third. My faith and hope had been vanquished by intense suffering. I played no role in this miracle. My surgeon’s last words to me were “I didn’t think you were going to make it. It is amazing what the body can endure.” He more or less said, “It was a miracle!” I certainly believe it was a miracle. Family and friends who literally saw me around that time think it was a miracle.

life Rles 1

Life Rules

I have, over the years, developed a few life rules for myself. For example, “keep your behind (ie the past) behind you behind”. When you make a decision never look back. Never second guess yourself. Until they invent time travel, no one can change the past. Never waste the present trying to change the past.

an ode to 2013 by Scott Martin

love is what holds one close,
whether near or far away.
selfishly i hope this is the year,
our paths will cross one day.

whether I saw you last night,
or it has been a decade or more.
I am convinced neither distance nor time,
can tarnish the friendship we store.

so whether you are around the world,
or live just down the lane.
i treasure the news of you and yours,
whether it is exciting or mundane.

so thank you for each post you post,
each message that you send.
but if you can stop by the house,
I would love to see you my friend.
